1-2-1s
8 hours on location with me working in Essex, Suffolk or Norfolk
Using your camera in the landscape.
I believe that twenty five years as a professional photographer and thirteen years as a teacher puts me in a unique position to offer workshops to help you learn the techniques of photography, explained clearly and patiently. People learn best when they apply their knowledge so we will learn in a hands-on manner, live on location. As well as learning techniques I will try my best to inspire you and set you some challenges for you to undertake if you wish. A workshop with me is the start of a photographic relationship not a one off way for me to take your money.
Workshops in Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk start at sunrise and are charged at £300 for a whole days shooting. This includes a pre-visit chat via video or telephone call to discuss what you want to achieve, a shoot at sunrise from a choice of locations and then a days photography including some of the following (weather and location dependent)
What we will photograph
Aerial photography using a drone. I have two for us to use (includes insurance)
Long exposure photography.
Woodland
Ancient buildings
A 1-2-1 workshop also includes a critique of the images captured. I will also hook up with you afterwards via video to look at processing your images captured from the day.
Where?
I have two locations that I work from, one in North Essex and one on the Norfolk coast. from there I can cover Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex
I can also tailor make 1-2-1’s in other locations for a mutually agreed fee depending on my availability.
Topics covered.
Composition
Looking at the light

Exact details will be worked out between us depending on your experience levels and what you are interested in learning about. We will firm this up on our preliminary video/telephone call. I will then send you full details a few days before our workshop so that I can plan with the weather in mind.

Unleash Your Photography Potential with Two Seasoned Landscape Photographers
Attention all photography enthusiasts! Are you ready to embark on a breathtaking journey through the captivating Yorkshire Dales? Join us for a one-of-a-kind workshop led by not just one, but two experienced landscape photographers who possess an intimate knowledge of this picturesque region. Get ready to capture the awe-inspiring beauty of cascading waterfalls and dramatic limestone pavements of Yorkshire with me and Garry Sugden, a Yorkshire photographer who knows this area intimately!
Why Choose Our Workshop?
Well known and unexplored locations
As Garry is a resident of North Yorkshire, our workshop offers a unique advantage. Garry has lived in this area his whole life and knows the county intimately. I am also a frequent visitor. From tranquil waterfalls nestled in lush green valleys to mesmerizing limestone pavements stretching across the landscape, with our help and guidance you’ll have the opportunity to capture these enchanting scenes in all their glory. We will shoot at sunrise, throughout the day and at sunset. The aim is to photograph at least 4 locations per day.
Learn from Two Masters of the Craft
Our workshop brings together not one, but two celebrated landscape photographers, each with their own distinct style and expertise. Benefit from the diverse perspectives and techniques of these seasoned professionals as they impart their knowledge, tips, and tricks to help you elevate your photography skills to new heights. Whether you're a beginner or an intermediate photographer, our workshop is designed to cater to all skill levels. There will be plenty of time for 1-2-1 tuition as you will be part of a small group (maximum of 6).
Master the Art of Composition and Lighting
Composition and lighting are the pillars of landscape photography. During our workshop, you'll receive expert guidance to enhance your understanding of these fundamental elements. Our photographers will teach you how to frame your shots for maximum impact, tell captivating visual stories, and make the most of natural lighting conditions. Unlock the secrets to creating stunning images that you will be proud to put on your wall.
Post-Processing Techniques and Workflow
Photography doesn't end when you press the shutter. The magic continues during post-processing where your images truly come to life. Learn the ins and outs of post-processing techniques in the evening over a coffee. We will guide you through an efficient and effective workflow. Discover how to enhance the colors, bring out the intricate details, and create captivating compositions using LR,PS, Luminar Neo and Dehancer editing software. Elevate your photographs from good to extraordinary!
Small Group Setting for Personalised Attention
To ensure an enriching and intimate learning environment, our workshop is limited to a small group of 6 participants. This allows us to provide personalised attention, tailored feedback.
Where will we be staying?
We will have exclusive use of the wonderful Riverhouse B&B at Malham where we will be ideally placed for all the wonderful photographic locations afforded by North Yorkshire.
What is included?
Two whole day and one half days tuition on location including processing in the evening.
Transport to each location (although you are welcome to use your vehicle if you would rather).
Two nights accommodation plus breakfast. You will have a room to yourself.
Post-processing tuition.
A generous helping of 1-2-1 tuition.
What is not included?
Travel and camera insurance, all other meals, snacks and drinks other than breakfast at the B&B.
The Plan
We plan to shoot two sunrises on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th along with three sunsets on 18th, 19th and 20th. Obviously landscape photography is weather dependent and we have several locations bookmarked. Most locations do not require much walking and some can be photographed a short walk from the car. During the day, depending on weather, we aim to photograph some local waterfalls and you can try your hand at some aerial photography with one of our drones.
What do I need?
Whatever photographic equipment you have. It is even possible to have a successful workshop with an iPhone! A tripod is a must (we have a couple available if you need the loan of one) and a selection of lenses if you have them.
Wellies with good grip.
Waterproof outer layer.
Sturdy walking boots with ankle support would also be useful.
Warm clothing. It is best to have several thin layers on rather than one big thick layer but certainly dress for cold weather.
If you are not sure about what to bring please ask and we will advise.
T&C’s apply and will be sent to you with the booking document. We require a £100 deposit to secure a place.
